MAINTENANCE

HOW DO I KEEP THE ORIGINAL LOOK ON MY PREVERCO PREOILTM FLOOR?

Use the Preverco cleaner designed for hardwood floors. We highly recommend using Preverco's cleaning kit as it has been tested and is completely compatible with our PreOilTM floors.

The products can be found at authorized Preverco retailers. Never use a damp mop and a bucket, as the excess moisture can damage the wood and the finish.

Always use high-quality products for better cleaning results. The use of lower-quality cleaners may leave a greasy residue on your floor (cloudy film or haze). It can also cause problems or reduce the life of your floor's finish.

If possible, avoid any product that claims to protect your floor. These products leave a cloudy film or residue, making your floor look damaged.

CAN I USE A MOP WITH A SPRAYER LIKE A SWIFFER® WETJET® OR OTHER SIMILAR PRODUCT TO CLEAN MY PREVERCO FLOOR?

We recommend spraying cleaner on a microfibre pad instead of spraying it on the floor.

MY LOCAL RETAILER DOES NOT CARRY YOUR CLEANER. WHERE CAN I GET SOME?

You can ask your retailer to check Preverco's price list and order it for you. In the near future, you will be able to order it directly, right here on this website.

CAN I USE A MOP AND BUCKET TO CLEAN MY PREVERCO FLOOR?

We do not recommend using a mop and bucket to clean your Preverco hardwood floors. If too much water enters the wood through the cracks in the floor, there is a chance that the flooring could expand and cause a range of problems, including cupping (when the sides of the floorboards curl up) and peeling finish (when the varnish detaches from the boards).

CAN FLOORS WITH THE WAVE AND BRUSHED TEXTURES BE CLEANED AS EASILY AS THOSE WITH THE REGULAR FINISH?

Textured floors can be cleaned just as easily as our regular products. The same type of finish is applied to all of our products*.
* With the exception of the oiled finish.

CAN I USE A STEAM MOP ON PREVERCO FLOORS?

Preverco does not recommend using steam mops. These systems work by shooting steam against a surface and collecting dirt with a cloth mop.

Hardwood reacts to its environment and absorbs moisture, which causes it to expand. Preverco's opinion is that this process will very likely damage the flooring by causing massive expansion and inflicting permanent damage.

RESTORATION

When simple cleaning is not enough anymore to restore the original appearance of your PreOilTM oiled floor or after a major damage (such as a deep scratch) revitalization or repair become necessary.

Preverco offers a whole range of maintenance products, to repair and revitalize your PreOilTM oiled floor. The procedure varies slightly depending on the work to be done.

Oil recoating by hand:

STEPS:

  1. Thoroughly clean the floor before starting work using the specially designed Preverco products. Leave to dry and then begin application. (#PE-2000-000-00)
  2. Spread a small quantity of PreOilTM clear oil (#GC-HUIL-000-000) directly on the floor surface of approximately +/-5pi x 5pi.
  3. Use a clean and dry cotton cloth or sponge.
  4. Ensure uniform application so as to obtain a fine film of oil on the surface. Leave to penetrate and wipe off any excess with a cloth in order to leave only a very thin coat.
  5. Let dry for 30 minutes between each coat and repeat if necessary.
  6. Proceed section by section over the entire floor surface, making sure that all areas being covered are uniform.
  7. Pay particular attention in corners and edges along the walls.
  8. Allow to dry completely for 16-24 hours before circulating freely and replacing furniture.
  9. To ensure safety, dispose of all oil-soaked cloths in a bucket of water. Otherwise, soiled linen may ignite spontaneously.

Oil Recoating Using a Rotary Buffer:

  2. Use an industrial floor buffer (available on rental).
  3. Use a white buffer pad.
  4. Pour the PreOilTM clear oil (#GC-HUIL-000-000) in a bottle with spout to facilitate the work.
  5. Apply directly onto the wood floor in small quantities (size of an egg).
  6. Position the centre of the buffer pad on the oil.
  7. Divide and work the room in sections of approximately 50 ft2.
  8. Apply the oil manually in corners and around edges of the room.
  9. Apply a second coat if needed, waiting 30 minutes between coats.
  10. Leave to dry completely for 16-24 hours before circulating freely and replacing furniture.
  11. To ensure safety, dispose of all oil-soaked cloths in a bucket of water.

REPAIRING SCRATCHES AND STAINS

EXPLANATION: Repair is necessary when imperfections such as large scrapes, scratches or stains become visible on the floor.

Repairing Superficial Scratches (stained oil):

  6. Leave to dry completely for approximately 24 hours.
  7. Apply a coat of PreOilTM clear oil using a sponge or other type of manual applicator.

  3. Apply the stained oil (choose the colour matching your floor among PreOilTM oiled finishing products) into the cavity using an applicator crayon (or a fine brush).
  4. Let dry for approximately 1 minute.
  5. Wipe the repaired area gently using a perpendicular motion so as to maintain all the colour on the imperfection.
